The session, which consisted of warm-up exercises and fitness circuits, helped the young apprentices to gain coaching experience and gave the Cedars School pupils an opportunity to learn new games and meet the students.
The session took place at Gateshead College’s Academy for Sport at Gateshead International Stadium. They spent two weeks putting together a fitness circuits programme for the Cedars School pupils. The exercises were all made up by the students and included beanbag throwing, a timed head to head contest and a bowls style game.
Chris Ord, 16-19 manager at Gateshead Council, said: “I’ve been involved in the Young Apprenticeship programme from the outset and was invited to come and see what the Sport Young Apprentices were involved in and how they were working with the Cedars School pupils.
“It was fantastic to see not only the apprentices but the Cedars pupils benefitting from the fitness circuits exercise.
“Both groups were able to get a lot out of the session and I was really impressed with how the apprentices thought on their feet to adapt the exercises to suit the pupils’ individual needs. There are definitely some top class coaches of the future in the group.”
The Young Apprentices are:-
Beth Bradford; Jack Best; Erin Wakefield; Nicole Pinkney; Nathan Hood; Sean Lofthouse; Chris Fleming.
