Hookergate is set in a beautiful rural environment and our site, buildings and facilities are very good indeed. We have an extended and completely refurbished Science and Technology block, four fully equipped ICT rooms and the Post 16 centre. All other classrooms have been decorated and carpeted to give us an excellent learning environment. The open corridors around the ‘quads’ have now been completely enclosed and there are new toilet facilities. Our library and dining areas have been upgraded.

In July 2005 we received ‘Specialist Schools’ status. Our main focus is on English, Maths and ICT. We will receive nearly half a million pounds over the next 3 years to deliver many exciting initiatives for the school and the community. All classrooms are already fitted with the latest interactive whiteboard technology.

Hookergate is also involved with several national initiatives. Through ‘Excellence in Cities’ we have a member of staff who deals with the needs of ‘Gifted and Talented’ students and we have three ‘Learning Mentors’ whose full time role is to support students of all abilities in their efforts to get the most out of school.

  The ‘Secondary Strategy’ initiative is promoting innovative and exciting teaching   and       learning throughout the school.
  In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) and in Post 16 the curriculum has been fully reviewed     to include vocational opportunities as well as traditional subjects.

  We have a well-established pattern of reporting and meeting parents which means you     should get the regular information you need in order to work with us to do the best for     your son or daughter.

  Hookergate is a secondary school on a human scale. With about 600 students we get to   know everyone as an individual - we can personalise their learning.
