Year 10 students from Hookergate attending a hairdressing course at Gateshead College competed alongside students from Sunderland, Gateshead, and Ashington Colleges.

Success was achieved in the creative hair style section with a second place for which a medal and certificate was presented.

The Art department has long had a strong working relationship with the School of Art and Design at the University of Sunderland. Many past students have successfully studied there and we are one of their main schools for recruitment.

Since 1994 over 60,000 students across the whole of the north-east have benefited from the ‘If I Can You Can’ programme.

As part of their Applied GCSE course, sixteen Hookergate artists visited Newcastle to exhibit their work in a most unusual way.

For the first time the Art Department are exhibiting work abroad. We were invited to participate, as the only overseas school, in the Prix De Peinture Francois Hubert-Benoist exhibition in Domfront Normandy.

Year 10 students attended the ‘North East Skills Event’ on the 3rd of October at the Metro Radio Arena.

Year 11 were lucky enough to visit Catterick Army Camp in June.The day featured all the Regiments and jobs the British Army offers new recruits.
