On Wednesday 14th July Mrs Heer and six year 9 students (Katie Fannin,
Laura Webber, Laura Ramsey, Amie Lind, Danielle Nesbitt and Emily Hopps)
went to Saltwell Park for the day to read 'The Gruffalo' in French to
four Primary Schools.

On Tuesday 25th May, six year 9 pupils and Mrs Heer visited Emmaville
Primary school to read The Gruffalo in French to a class of year 4 pupils.

The Championships were held on Wednesday 12th May at Gateshead Stadium. Hookergate was represented by a small team of Year 10 students.

Tyneside’s future sporting talent has been putting pupils from Cedars school through their paces.
Seven of Hookergate’s Young Apprentices in Sport organised and took part in a coaching and fitness session with 10 pupils from Cedars School and Sports College.

On Tuesday 27th April 2010, Year 11 students who attend the Second Year Salon Services course at Gateshead College, travelled to Kirkley Hall, Ponteland to compete in a hairdressing competition.

Christopher Fleming of Year 10 claimed overall first position in round 1 of the Gateshead Indoor Rowing League.

A group of students from Hookergate School watched the Newcastle Eagles take a share of second place in the BBL Championship after beating the Everton Tigers 88-82 at the Metro Radio Arena.

The whole of Year 8 went on a day trip to Beamish Wild to take part in a range of outdoor activities.

Well done to the boys who represented the school in the first ever Gateshead Golf Championship.

Active Kidz are coming to Hookergate School Again this Summer fom the 17th to the 21st of August.

We were lucky enough to secure Wimbledon tickets for the second year running, so off we went with eight year 9 students.

Steven King, a Year 11 pupil, qualified at Beamish Golf Club for the schoolboy Under 18 championships, to play in the regional finals in Lincolnshire at Sleaford Golf club.

At 11.00 p.m on the evening of April 4th Mrs. Ritson, Mrs Heer, Mr. Nicholson and Mr. Greenhouse set off with 34 pupils for the Black Forest in Germany.

Ten Hookergate students travelled to The Sage on Tuesday afternoon to perform in the 2009 Gateshead Dance Festival.

Some of our year nine students are currently showing work at the Baltic in Gateshead.

On Tuesday 16th December at lunch time, years 7, 8 and 9 students turned out in force to watch and take part in the Dance Competition.

On a cold, windy Friday afternoon in November, we greeted a team from a top private school from Edinburgh. They were the Scottish tennis champions who had come to compete for a place in the North Regional finals.

Linking with the year 11 'Fashion is rubbish' project, BTEC student Rosie Burlison took the opportunity to enter the Trashion Fashion Show organised by the Gateshead Youth Council.

As part of the National Big Draw events we were invited to attend a workshop at Bill Quay Farm run by the Northern Print Organisation.

On Sunday the 5th of October, two year 11 students were lucky enough to represent the Gateshead Whickham Leadership Academy, in their work of marshalling the BUPA Great North Run.

Year 11 BTEC students are really throwing themselves into their latest project 'FASHION IS RUBBISH', which recycles everyday used objects and turns them into eye catching catwalk outfits.

Well done to all Year 9s and those Year 7s who took part in the 'Climbing Wall Day' on Monday 30th June.

Visiting Thiepval held a personal interest for me: the name of my Great Uncle, Sgt. Thomas Ayre, was carved into the stone monument in memory of his death whilst fighting in the region in 1916.

All of year nine took part in a fun day off site at the Safety Works project in Newcastle.

Congratulations to the following students for their success in the ‘UK Maths Challenges’.

On Thursday the 22nd of May Hookergate became a maximum security prison. Yes, that’s right! Pupils in years 8 and 9 had their normal lessons suspended for the day as they experienced first hand life as a prisoner.

At 11.30 pm on the evening of April 4th Mrs Ritson, Miss Collin, Miss King, Mr Nicholson and Mr Zabrocki set off with 40 pupils for the Black Forest in Germany. After an overnight journey to Dover we caught an early ferry and travelled down through Belgium, Luxembourg and France, arriving early evening in Kippenheim. After settling into our hotel and having a meal some pupils and staff went to explore the town while others stayed in the hotel to relax.

In April, 30 post-16 students visited the World War 1 battlefields and cemeteries of Belgium and France. The trip was organised to tie in with students’ studies of the events and poetry of WW1 and was a great success in terms of what was learned and how deeply affected the students were.

Year 10 students from Hookergate attending a hairdressing course at Gateshead College competed alongside students from Sunderland, Gateshead, and Ashington Colleges.

Success was achieved in the creative hair style section with a second place for which a medal and certificate was presented.

Well done to the Year 9 boys for winning the Gateshead Schools’ Cup which was played at Gateshead International Stadium on 24th April 2008.
After a hard fought match they defeated St Thomas More 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 after extra time.

Year 7 students have just visited the new Kingswood Outdoor Activities Centre at Dukes House Wood near Hexham.

The Art department has long had a strong working relationship with the School of Art and Design at the University of Sunderland. Many past students have successfully studied there and we are one of their main schools for recruitment.

Since 1994 over 60,000 students across the whole of the north-east have benefited from the ‘If I Can You Can’ programme.

This interactive session previously aimed at Year 8 classes has been developed for Year 10 audiences.

As part of their Applied GCSE course, sixteen Hookergate artists visited Newcastle to exhibit their work in a most unusual way.

For the first time the Art Department are exhibiting work abroad. We were invited to participate, as the only overseas school, in the Prix De Peinture Francois Hubert-Benoist exhibition in Domfront Normandy.

Year 10 students attended the ‘North East Skills Event’ on the 3rd of October at the Metro Radio Arena.
