On Wednesday 2 July Mr Kirkland and Mrs Atkinson met a group of ten Year 10 students at Newcastle Central station for the 7am train to London. The group were on a once in a lifetime visit to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

Visiting Thiepval held a personal interest for me: the name of my Great Uncle, Sgt. Thomas Ayre, was carved into the stone monument in memory of his death whilst fighting in the region in 1916.

All of year nine took part in a fun day off site at the Safety Works project in Newcastle.

At 11.30 pm on the evening of April 4th Mrs Ritson, Miss Collin, Miss King, Mr Nicholson and Mr Zabrocki set off with 40 pupils for the Black Forest in Germany. After an overnight journey to Dover we caught an early ferry and travelled down through Belgium, Luxembourg and France, arriving early evening in Kippenheim. After settling into our hotel and having a meal some pupils and staff went to explore the town while others stayed in the hotel to relax.

In April, 30 post-16 students visited the World War 1 battlefields and cemeteries of Belgium and France. The trip was organised to tie in with students’ studies of the events and poetry of WW1 and was a great success in terms of what was learned and how deeply affected the students were.

Year 7 students have just visited the new Kingswood Outdoor Activities Centre at Dukes House Wood near Hexham.

Year 10 pupils and Hookergate staff have made a collection on behalf of Great North Air Ambulance

As part of their Applied GCSE course, sixteen Hookergate artists visited Newcastle to exhibit their work in a most unusual way.

For the first time the Art Department are exhibiting work abroad. We were invited to participate, as the only overseas school, in the Prix De Peinture Francois Hubert-Benoist exhibition in Domfront Normandy.

Year 10 students attended the ‘North East Skills Event’ on the 3rd of October at the Metro Radio Arena.

Year 11 were lucky enough to visit Catterick Army Camp in June.The day featured all the Regiments and jobs the British Army offers new recruits.
